Welcome to Springfield Ohio

In 1780 there was a man named George Clark and he led a band of Kentuckians into the Springfield area to battle the Shawnee Indians for their land. At this time, a Shawnee Indian named Tecumseh was 12 years old but he continued his fight against the expansion of the United States on Native American land and because of his great efforts, he is a well known hero in American history.

The colonizers won this battle known as “The Battle of Piqua” and that is where the name “Clark County” came from. In 1801 the settlement was laid out and in 1827 Springfield became a town. 12 years later the Old National Road was completed which impacted transportation heavily and in the 1840s railroads arrived, which made Springfield a major transportation hub.

Another important event in Springfield was in 1855. This is when William Whiteley invented a successful reaper and mower which led to manufacturing of farming equipment. In the late 19th century, Springfield became an industrial powerhouse, earning the nickname “The Champion City” and in the 20th Century, Springfield became known for manufacturing, particularly in the automotive industry. Springfield Ohio has valuable history and currently a great place to live with a lot to offer.
