Welcome to Springfield Ohio

In 1780, an explorer by the name of George Clark led a band of Kentuckians into the Springfield area. Here, he battled the Shawnee Indians for their land. During this time, a Shawnee Indian named Tecumseh, a 12 year old boy, began his fight against the expansion of the United States on Native American land. Due to his great efforts, he became a well known hero in American history. The colonizer George Clark won the battle known as “The Battle of Piqua” and that is how “Clark County” got its name.

In 1801 the settlement was created and in 1827 Springfield officially became a town. 12 years later the Old National Road was completed, this impacted transportation heavily by the time the railroads arrived (1840), the Old National Road made Springfield a major transportation hub. In 1855, another important event in Springfield occurred when William Whiteley invented a successful reaper and mower. This led to the mass manufacturing of farming equipment.

By the late 19th century, Springfield became an industrial powerhouse, earning the nickname “The Champion City”. By the 20th Century, Springfield became well known for its manufacturing capabilities, particularly for the automotive industry. Among it’s robust history, Springfield Ohio has a valuable history and offers a great place to live with a lot to offer.
